West Brom have entered the race to sign Peterborough striker, Ivan Toney, but will face competition from the likes of Celtic and Rangers.

According to FootballInsider, Peterborough want £8m if they are to let their talisman leave the club this summer.

The decision to listen to offers for Toney isn’t one that has come lightly; once it was revealed that Peterborough would miss out on promotion, after the league was decided on a PPG basis, the board realised it would be wiser to get as much money for their prized assets now, rather than possibly lose them for less in the future.

Toney isn’t short of interest either, with New York Red Bulls having had their £4m bid turned down recently.

Peterborough expect there to be a bidding war for the 24-year-old forward this summer, especially if the rumours that Brighton are keen on Toney are true — it’ll be hard for any side to compete with the kind of cash they could offer.

Ivan Toney has been nothing short of a revelation for Peterborough in League One this season, scoring 24 goals in 32 appearances and providing six assists in the process.

He’s undoubtedly a rising talent and would more than likely prosper in the Championship; but can he be expected to do a good job in the Premier League if the Baggies are promoted?

This is perhaps the first worry to cross any Albion fan’s mind; however, with the mediocre strikeforce Bilic has to choose from right now, the addition of a player like Ivan Toney would likely make his job easier than it is.

The agility and superb eye for goal shown by the 24-year-old would set him apart from the likes of Kenneth Zohore and Charlie Austin, both of whom are known for their ponderous style of play; and his explosive speed would immediately put him ahead of an option like Hal Robson-Kanu.
