According to Italian website Area Napoli, West Bromwich Albion have reportedly had a €25m offer for Everton Cebolinha turned down — not by the club, though, but by the player himself.
It is understood that the 24-year-old is indeed open to a move to the Premier League — something the Baggies could offer if they are promoted this season — but wants to sign for a much higher calibre club, ideally a team in the top six.
Everton’s current club, Grêmio, apparently received the offer from West Brom ‘with good eyes’ and were poised to accept it, but the Brazilian forward is far from convinced by the move.
Albion had set Everton as one of their main transfer targets in case of a promotion back to the Premier League this season; however, they may need to start looking elsewhere already as the player is reportedly holding out for clubs with bigger aspirations.
It is a shame that Everton isn’t interested in joining the Baggies, as he would definitely have a starting place in the side every week, given the calibre of player he is.
That said, if the reports are indeed true, the fact that Albion are proactively hunting down potential star signings and offering good money for them shows that they mean business this time round.
Incidentally, Area Napoli is a website that focuses on its namesake club, and the reason for mentioning West Brom in the article at all is because Everton is a player that they, too, intend to bring in when the transfer market opens.
