West Bromwich Albion’s promotion to the Premier League has served as the impetus for the club to open talks with Callum Morton, according to westbromnews.co.uk.

While there were rumours about Albion offering Callum Morton a contract about a month ago, it seems that the youngster was perhaps holding out to see whether the Baggies would achieve promotion or not before he made his decision.

Morton has been out on loan with Northampton Town in League Two this season and managed to score eight goals in 12 appearances for the club, helping them earn promotion to League One via the play-offs.

The 20-year-old forward is regarded as a hot prospect at the Hawthorns but only has a year left on his contract, which has prompted the Albion board to offer a new deal as soon as possible.

Morton is yet to make an appearance for the senior team but his form with the Cobblers this season has certainly boosted his chances.

However, in all likelihood, Morton may end up joining Northampton on loan for another season to continue his development.
