West Brom are bound to be linked with a whole host of players this summer as they now possess the pulling power of a Premier League club, so could — in theory — lure any affordable player they’re interested in to the Hawthorns.

However, any down-to-Earth Baggies fan will be able to promptly tell you that this isn’t the case, and won’t be for quite some time.

Albion have an owner who refuses to invest in the playing squad, so the club is forced to be self-serving and spend what’s left over in the finances — understood to be between £20m and £25m.

This doesn’t leave much room for manoeuvre so the Baggies will have to spend wisely.

That said, these are three players that the Albion have been linked with and could very well go after this summer.

#1 Jeremy Ngakia (West Ham)

Jeremy Ngakia is a 19-year-old right-back who was playing for West Ham United in the Premier League before he turned down the offer of a contract extension, which made him available on a free transfer once his deal expired.

Ngakia was mostly involved with the Hammers’ Under-23s squad before he left the club, but had stints with the senior team, making eight Premier League appearances.

With the departure of Nathan Ferguson, who joined Crystal Palace as a free agent this month after letting his contract run down, Jeremy Ngakia could be the ideal replacement: he’s around the same age; close to, if not the same calibre as Ferguson; speedy, strong and agile; and could learn a great deal from being managed by Slaven Bilic.

Best of all, Ngakia would be free!*

*Naturally there’s going to be a tribunal but the final cost will still be a meagre compensation fee.
