West Bromwich Albion are leading the race to sign Besiktas defender Domagoj Vida, according to Turkish newspaper Sabah.

It is now well known that Besiktas are in a dire financial situation and so clubs are preparing to exploit that by offering low sums for their best players, fully expecting them to sell to ease pressure on their wage bill.

Domagoj Vida is currently the highest earner at the Turkish club so Besiktas will be eager to offload him this summer.

Naturally clubs all began circling like sharks once the situation surrounding Vida’s possible departure was made apparent, with the likes of Roma, Inter, Fiorentina, Sevilla, Monaco and Lyon all showing an interest in the 31-year-old.

And yet, despite the vast array of top European sides looking to sign Vida, it is the Baggies who lead the way — and it could be because of Slaven Bilic.

The former Croatia manager will be a big enough pull on his own for Vida, but the fact that West Brom are now playing in the Premier League and would likely utilise him as their first choice centre-back will definitely pique his interest even more.

French side Lyon are also heavily interested in Vida and may offer to exchange former Besiktas defender Marcelo for the 31-year-old.

Vida featured in 31 games for Besiktas this season and his contract will run until June 2022.
