West Brom have been named among a number of other Premier League clubs in the race for QPR playmaker Eberechi Eze, according to The Guardian.

Queens Park Rangers are after a sum in the region of £20m for their most prized asset, knowing that they can get a small fortune in return for the 22-year-old because of the current demand.

Given just how well Eze has played for QPR this season, interest from the top flight was widely anticipated, so the Hoops’ £20m price tag for the midfielder was most likely planned in advance, well aware that they would struggle to keep hold of him for much longer regardless.

Eze has featured in a total of 48 matches for QPR in all competitions this season, scoring 14 goals and providing eight assists in the process.

He began his development with the club following his move from Millwall’s U18 squad to QPR’s U23 side in the summer of 2016.

Eze had a spell out on loan with Wycombe shortly after being promoted to the senior side, but once he broke into the first team upon his return, he was regarded as a key player — and this remains the case today.

Nobody knows for sure how much West Brom have to spend this summer; there have been rumours about a mere £20m transfer budget, but most fans suspect that’s simply been declared so that selling clubs won’t hike up their prices on players Albion wish to buy.

One thing is for sure, though: if the Baggies secure Eberechi Eze before next season, they will have had to shatter their record transfer fee to do so.

The current record is £15m – the amount spent to pry Oliver Burke from RB Leipzig in 2017.
